The Electronic Classroom with the Internet Encyclopedia

The development of affordable technology is rapidly changing the way classrooms are being managed around the world and providing opportunities for interactive rather than passive education.

One example is the use of interactive whiteboards, which combine the features of a traditional blackboard with the capabilities of a computer. Information from a computer is projected onto the surface of the touch-sensitive whiteboard. Students and teachers can then modify and expand the information on the board using either a finger or stylus. The final product can be saved to a computer via a wireless connection and printed if needed, eliminating the need for teachers to produce handouts and students to take notes.

Another technology being used is the netbook, a small, lightweight and inexpensive laptop computer which less hardware and fewer features than a laptop, but still allows students to access a school network and complete basic word processing tasks. The lower price makes it feasible to equip each student in a class with a computer, allowing for simultaneous lessons. Online school and library resources are immediately available to each student as well. Netbooks also potentially reduce the use of paper in schools as students can submit assignments electronically to their teachers.Related Article : Teachers Back in the Classroom Learning About New Technology
