October 7th, 2011

Technology is advancing and changing in the classroom. In addition to note taking there is now music, movement, and manipulated graphics in class. These new additions to the classroom help keep students moving around and interested in the lesson.
One of the more interesting technological advances in the classroom in the use of the smart board. This is similar to an overhead screen only students and write and draw on it. The board is interactive and allows for many interesting variations to traditional lessons. Each student has something similar to a buzzer and has to buzz in when they know an answer. The smart board keeps track of how many people in the class got the answer correct. The smart board also is good for review before a test. The teacher can set up games like jeopardy or balloon pop. This game allows the students to throw a soft ball at the smart board to “pop” the balloon and answer a question. The smart board keep students engaged and involved in the lesson.
Students are also being allowed to write songs and appropriate raps song when learning about poetry and creative writing . School are adapting to meet the needs of student using new and interesting technology.
