Electronic Text Books Saving Schools Money
October 11th, 2011Textbook costs can be extremely high for schools and students alike. Textbook companies are regularly coming out with new editions for their books, whether or not the information needs to be updated, in order to fight the used book market. This causes schools to shell out more money each year on updating their textbooks, which is very stressful on most school districts considering that there have been so many cuts in educational funding. But a new idea is emerging and intended to become much more widespread within the next 4 to 5 years: electronic textbooks. Electronic textbooks have many advantages in such a technological world of learning and finding information; electronic textbooks are cheaper than print, may be easier to find, and can often be adjusted by the teacher to better fit their approach to the material they’re covering. Some environmental advocates in our school districts may also like the idea of electronic textbooks as an alternative to the amount of paper used to print textbooks and their new editions year after year. Electronic textbooks are also more appealing to students now, because these students are growing up in a world full of technology and are becoming very familiar with it due to the influence of computers, smartphones and various other technological devices that are popular in our society. It is well worth the effort for schools to implement electronic textbooks because, in the long run, they will save money and benefit students.
