Teaching and Learning with Smart Boards
Smart Boards are a great way to improve the teaching and learning environment within the classroom. There are several ways to use Smart Boards as an educational tool. One way to use Smart Boards is to display presentations. For instance, PowerPoint presentations can easily be shown on the Smart Board for all students in the classroom to see. Teachers may use PowerPoint presentations in the classroom to aid with the new material that is being taught. Students can use PowerPoint presentations to aid with their research projects. The ability to interact with a Smart Board through the touch screen can greatly aid the PowerPoint presentation that is being delivered. It is very easy to press on specific aspects of the PowerPoint through the touch screen to maintain the flow of the presentation. Smart Boards can also be used to show educational clips either from the internet or from a DVD. The information from the computer will be sent to the Smart Board screen which will allow the class to see an enlarged image of the clip. Speakers can also be used with a Smart Board, if they are plugged into the computer, so that they may listen to the voices and sounds in the educational videos. Smart Boards can be a great type of assistive technology. People with poor fine motor abilities can use the touch screen with ease. For instance, a person who frequently has their hand formed into a fist can press their fist onto the screen to work with the application that is on the computer. Some Smart Boards come prepackaged with applications that are both fun and educational. The teacher may review these applications to determine their use within the classroom. After using the Smart Board, teachers may also find other creative uses for the technology.
